Blocking apps using IPTables

Speaking of IPTables, Sergio Gonzalez Duran of Linux.com writes about using IPTables to block specific applications and specific IP addresses from accessing network resources.

For more detailed IPTables Tutorial, check out Oskar Andreasson's site (image linked to his site). If you prefer the FreeBSD's IPFW, then here is how to use it.
