I disposed of my Asus Eee PC when the Macbook Air came out. However, I disposed of the Macbook Air in favor of the heavier Macbook Pro. As to the reason for this, well, that is for another blog. :)
Anyway, with the new Asus Eee PC models rapidly being released by Asus, the stock OS, Xandros, is also being rapidly replaced by alternative OS. Microsoft Windows XP is an official alternative but I prefer a Linux derivative. Personally, the Eeebuntu looks like a worthy contender. I have yet to try the Netbook Remix version but here's what it looks like:
Definitely looks great! I wonder – should I get an Asus Eee PC again?
I love my eee PC – it’s great and it’s even better with Ubuntu (eeebuntu) on it! It makes it a better machine for me – the apps are more up to date (I love OO 2.4 for being able to natively read MS Office 2007 documents), and getting rid of apps that I don’t need.
I picked up my Eee 4GS used from someone frustrated that they could not get Ubuntu up and running successfully on it. I’ve been running Eeebuntu Standard 1.0 on it for a month now and am quite happy. BTW, my Eee has the 2GB RAM upgrade (courtesy of PO).
Perhaps you would like the S101 if you like the Macbook Air … I’m using Eeebuntu on it, working fine – here are some notes regarding the installation: Eeebuntu / Ubuntu Linux on the Asus Eee PC S101. Stefan
