Gutsy Gibbon escapes!

Last Thursday, Ubuntu released their Gutsy Gibbon version of their popular Linux distribution. Accurately labeled as version 7.10, this new Ubuntu release boasts of a lot of new features and improvements.

Gutsy Gibbon escapes!

Listed on its main website, there are 16 featured improvements affecting the following:



  • GNOME 2.20

  • Desktop 3D effects

  • Desktop search

  • Fast user switching

  • Firefox plugins in Ubuntu

  • Dynamic screen configuration

  • Graphical configuration tool for X

  • Fully automatic printer installation

  • Handling of non-free device drivers

  • NTFS writing

  • Power consumption

  • Encrypted hard disks

  • AppArmor security framework

  • Additional installation profiles for Ubuntu Server

  • Profile-based Authentication Configuration

  • Improved thin-client support

Anyway, I have this version running as a guest OS on vmware fusionlinks on my Mac and I must say that it rocks! It runs uberfast to a point that you may think that it is not running as a guest OS! Try it out and see.
