One of the advantages of having a DSLR or an expensive prosumer digital camera is its support for RAW image format. This gives you the flexibility to tweak the image as you want it - no compression, no color correctionlinks, nothing! However, this format is not available on affordable consumer cameras. Not anymore!

This wonderful hack claims to add RAW image format support to Canon consumer cameras that are based on the DIGIC II. Linux.com has an in-depth tutorial on how to use this hack.

Just a word of caution, just like any firmware hack, do at your own risk. :) I might just do this and see what happens.
