How to make your new iPod work on Linux

Don't you just love how the open source community works? Not too long ago, I echoed a call for help in getting the new iPods to work on Linux. Now, in less than a week, we get the first geek code to crack the iPod and make it work with your favorite Linux distribution.

With the initial hack, it will not take that long for the rest of the iPod-related Linux projects to update their libraries and resurrect the use of the new iPods on Linux.

Frankly, I think that this is not intentional on the part of Apple but hey, until Apple releases a linux version of iTunes, I think Apple hates Linux. :)

Hello, I saw your articles regarding Linux information and Ubuntu OS. I’ve actually spent the last 3 days vigerously tackling the opportunity of trying to install Ubuntu OS + Compiz on my custom built computer. Everything installs fine up until Compiz. Supposedly I’m running an ATI Radeon 9800 which is supposed to work with Compiz, but Compiz will not start at all. I understand that the only requirement is having 3D acceleration to push Compiz, which ATI Radeon 9800 has that ability. Basically in the end with all said and done, Compiz will not function with the 3D capabilities that are shown on Youtube.com with the 3D cube. Please assist with any information regarding installing Ubuntu using Gnome + Compiz. Thank you, Josh. Computer stats: AMD 64 3500+, 512MB Ram, Windows XP Service pack 2, 40 GB Hard drive with a 160 on order coming in the mail. This will allow the use of dual OS Windows on the 160GB Hard drive and Ubuntu on the 40GB hard drive incase anything happens I can focus on Ubuntu harddrive without disturbing my software on the 160GB harddrive. ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics card. Trying to avoid buying nVida GeForce graphcis card to make Compiz work. Oh also, I’m running the Ubuntu Feisty Fawn 6.04. Thanks, JJ
