Getting the webcam to work on Linux is one of the challenges that I faced when I was configuring a desktop linux installation. (Having an old webcam did not help either) Just like any Linux geek, I scoured the internet and tried various solutions until I reminded myself why I opted for a Mac for my video conferencing. :)
Linux.com's Bruce Byfield wrote a short article on how to configure your webcam on Linux. However, you still have the challenge of locating your webcam's make and model as well as the appropriate drivers to make it work. Using it as a starting guide, I may just be lucky to get that old webcam to work this time.
