A new report from research firm IDC entitled The Opportunity for Linux in a New Economy [PDF file] anticipates that the global market for Linux will grow to $35.5 billion by 2013.
"This compound annual growth rate of 23.6 percent will far exceed the 5 percent that IDC is forecasting for the software industry as a whole during that period," writes ChannelWeb's Kevin McLaughlin.
"IDC finds that 53 percent of enterprises it has surveyed are planning to increase adoption of Linux on the server and 48 percent expect to increase adoption of Linux on the client (desktop, laptop, etc.) 'as a direct result of the economic climate,'" writes CNET's Matt Asay.
