LAMP, MAMP, WAMP now SAMP
We all have heard of LAMP, i.e. Linux, Apache, mySQL and Perl/PHP/Python along with MAMP (Mac) and WAMP (Windows). Now Sun is entering the arena with SAMP, for Solaris +AMP. Here's how they are pitching it:

SAMP - built on the proven Solaris 10 OS - is the safer, more strategic approach for enterprise or emerging companies to build their web applications, and new programs and services make it even easier and more cost-effective for developers and systems administrators.

Whilst Sun has been providing the operating systemslinks scene with innovative and revolutionary technologies (D-Trace, Containers/Zones, etc.), it might take awhile before they can wrestle the "lead" of Linux in the geek scene. With projects like Nexenta, however, I reckon that they can provide a very viable alternative.
