Linux in the future

Filed in archive Humor by James Koopmann on July 25, 2008

What do you think Linux, your computer, your life will look like in the year 2016? I really haven't given it much thought.

Will you rely on Windows, Linux, or something in-between? An article 2016: You're watching the Linux channel takes a semi-realistic view into the future. After you read, do you really think Ubuntu will be the desktop of choice in only 8 years? All I know is there are still half a dozen applications I use daily that have no Linux port or open source solution.

While I enjoy working with the open source projectslinks I can find, unfortunately they still have to run on a Windows box. I just can't be carrying around two laptops or have two servers just because I like Linux OR Windows better. Servers? Yes! Desktops that are really productive? Maybe. The only way to get there will be to have major software vendors port to Linux. Don't think that will happen.

What do you think?
