Linux-based Router Part 2

Linux-based Router Part 2

In my Quest for the best Linux-based firmware for my broadband router, I checked out OpenWRT. I downloaded the latest version, WhiteRussian RC6 with PPPoE.

Flashing the router with a new firmware is straightforward and down right easy. However, making it work on my router is a different matter. The router rebooted just fine and I could access and configure it. When it was time to deploy it, it just wouldn't connect to my ISP using PPPoE. I do not know what was happening but it just won't connect.

I figured that maybe I should just try the main version, i.e. not from the pppoe subdirectory. I re-flashed, re-configured. Alas, no PPPoE setting! So, I actually was correct to download the first firmware with PPPoE.

Tough luck! It just wouldn't work. I am not sure what I was doing incorrectly but I resigned and opted to select another firmware. Anybody experienced this problem? I'm open to suggestions. OpenWRT is one of the more popular firmware out there.
