We all hate waiting for systems to boot. I have grown acustom to either keeping my systems on 24x7 (not very green) or making my pot of tea AFTER I turn on my systems. There are some simple things though that you can do to help the boot process. These are semi-intuitive and you've probably thought of most of them yourselves. But it is always good to refresh your memory and make sure you are doing all you can to aid in the boot process.
