OpenSolaris revs up for competition
This morning I installed Solaris 10 build 72 on a vmware Fusion guest OS on Mac OS X. I was surprised by the new installer application. It's a completely different experience compared to before. Frankly, the new installation program can now compete against the user-friendliness of Ubuntu.
In less than a dozen windows, I have Solaris 10 up and running. However, it would have been better if the install is completely without the console or command-line interface (only took 3 or 4 questions before the GUI kicked in).
Generally, it is a pleasant experience and if this is a taste of what is to come when Project Indiana's done, then I'd say "Let there be HackItSolaris".

Minor correction… I think that’s not Solaris 10 b72, but Solaris Nevada b72.

Thanks, SW. It is indeed Solaris Nevada B72… but hey, it is still Solaris.

I’m glad you liked the new install. I did, too.
It’s just the first iteration of the new Solaris installer, so check back again for more updates.
