OpenSolaris revs up for competition

This morning I installed Solaris 10 build 72 on a vmware Fusion guest OS on Mac OS X. I was surprised by the new installer application. It's a completely different experience compared to before. Frankly, the new installation program can now compete against the user-friendliness of Ubuntu.

In less than a dozen windows, I have Solaris 10 up and running. However, it would have been better if the install is completely without the console or command-line interface (only took 3 or 4 questions before the GUI kicked in).

Generally, it is a pleasant experience and if this is a taste of what is to come when Project Indiana's done, then I'd say "Let there be HackItSolaris". :)

I’m glad you liked the new install. I did, too. :) It’s just the first iteration of the new Solaris installer, so check back again for more updates.

    Minor correction… I think that’s not Solaris 10 b72, but Solaris Nevada b72.

Thanks, SW. It is indeed Solaris Nevada B72… but hey, it is still Solaris. :)
