The Sugar UI interface that has been made popular by the OLPC is available for others to use, i.e., not exclusive to the XO laptop. Sugar Labs Foundation is now the steward of Sugar and will also be the organization that will lead the community in further improving the interface.

In a recent BetaNews report, the foundation is now talking to some laptop manufacturers in hopes that they will provide the UI for their education segment. Now this is great news since it will mean that Sugar will be supporting other distributions and platforms. Now, if only we can get this to work on Edubuntulinks, then it'd be great.
