Symbian Foundation Counts on Red Hat Enterprise Linux

The Symbian Foundation has built a private cloud-based developer web site and server based on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

"The open source developer site acts a repository for users to access code, wikis, developer training and support," writes The Inquirer's Ian Williams.

"We share a complementary vision for open source with Red Hat and truly believe that open source software has the ability to transform any business," says Symbian Foundation head of IT Ian McDonald. "Working with Red Hat has been one of the many stepping stones toward achieving our goal of open sourcing the Symbian code base."

The organization says Red Hat Linux has improved its ability to scale in response to new business requirements and peaks in site traffic. "Additionally, performance and manageability have increased with the greater ease of use and improved support delivered with Red Hat Enterprise Linux, combined with the solution's ability to handle heavy, mission-critical workloads," the Symbian Foundation states.

The press release is here.
