T-Mobile USA Launches myTouch 3G Android Phone
Filed in archive Devices on July 9, 2009

T-Mobile USA today announced the start of the pre-sale period (from July 8-28, for current subscribers only) for the $200 myTouch 3G, the company's newest Android-based mobile device. Retail availability of the device will begin on August 5th.
"The MyTouch 3G is very similar to a T-Mobile G1, but somewhat slimmer and without a physical keyboard," writes PC Mag's Sascha Segan. "The software on board will be almost the same as the G1's, though: the Google Android 1.5 operating system, though in this case with built-in Microsoft Exchange support, which the G1 lacks."
But according to Engadget's Chris Ziegler, the real focus is on apps. "The crown jewel in the myTouch 3G's arsenal will be Sherpa, an entertainment discovery app that learns your preferences in food, stores, and attractions over time based on your ratings and bubbles them to the top so they're easier for you to find. Naturally, it's location-based so that you can find things around you; it'll be interesting to see how well this works in practice, but at a glance, we're excited to give it a shot so that we can finally stop eating In-N-Out seven nights a week (not to say there's anything wrong with that)."
