It's easy. It's free. You can boost your wireless signal and throttle your bandwidth, and if you somehow mess up and brick your router, you can recover everything. This is a great hack, but unfortunately, it only works for Lynksys router, though it is worth it to return your old router and by a Lynksys.
What you'll need:
1. One of the supported routers.
2. The generic DD-WRT v23 SP1 mini firmware version
3. The generic DD-WRT v23 SP1 standard firmware version
Details for getting the DD-WRT are at the article.

It sounds like an awesome hack, I'd love to try it, but my router is not in the list of supported devices. I think I'll buy me a Lynksys.

I think it's nice when we are reminded of things like this. Also, there are people that still don't know about it.

As switches and routers have very close prices, in SOHO networks it is simpler to have the computers directly connected to a router. With the expansion of Wi-Fi technology and the incorporated access points in the routers, things are getting less and less complicated and setting up a home network has become a trivial task.

I've been meaning to get around to this too, but have been wary about bricking my router. Anyone have any experiences with bricking and subsequently recovering a router?
