Filed in archive Finding The Right Linux For You on December 9, 2006
We have Ubuntu Dapper Drake (6.06) that comes with Long Term Support (LTS) and Ubuntu Edgy Eft (6.10) that comes with "upstart", the sysvinit init daemon replacement.
The next version, Feisty Fawn (7.04), is now available as an alpha version. This new version comes with the latest Linux kernel 2.6.19 (but will be replaced with 2.6.20 when released) and the new Gnome 2.17.

GNOME 2.17 is still shaping up and there are a lot of features still to come, including potential new applications. However, there have already been a few new features landed in various parts of the GNOME desktop.
